Meanwhile, check out the MaltMenu or the 'Specials' section for scores
and opinions on a number of other releases. The MaltMenu focuses on the
sort of widely available bottlings that you might find in a local whisky bar.
It offers tasting notes for +/- 200 different single malt whiskies. Because
many independent bottlings are limited releases that are usually sold out
within a matter of months, those are not included in the MaltMenu. We have,
however, included a few recently released independent bottlings in the
'Specials' segment of this archive.

If you want to dig a little deeper and scores & ratings are your thing; the
PDF of the Malt Maniacs Matrix lists more than 3,000 single malt whiskies
that have been sampled by at least four certified malt maniacs. And if that's
not enough for you, the PDF version of the Malt Maniacs Monitor features
well over 13,000 different whiskies - single malts, grain whiskies & blends.
Furthermore, you can find tasting notes on thousands of other whiskies
in the Distillery Data section of Malt Madness and on WhiskyFun.

And there's even more whisky stuff for you to browse.
The brand new Malt Maniacs website for example. There you can find
the results for the most recent editions of the Malt Maniacs Awards, as well
as E-pistles that were published in or after 2012. Alternatively, you could
check out the websites of some of our MM Awards participants;

The results of our whisky competition are published around December 1 each year.
More details about our 'modus operandi' can be found on the competition rules page.
Throughout the year, you can find more scores, tasting notes and personal opinions
on a few of the whisky websites of members of the malt maniacs collective.

Malt Maniacs Whisky Awards

Prices for single malts have been rising for years, and it is becoming increasingly difficult
to keep some 'competition' in the area below 50 Euro's. Nevertheless, we stuck with the
traditional three price brackets for now; Daily Drams (a retail price of up to 50 Euro's),
Premium Whiskies (retail price roughly between 50 and 150 Euro's) and last but not
least the Ultra Premium Whiskies (bottles with a street price of more than 150 Euro's).
The participants decide for themselves in which 'bracket' their bottlings get entered.
Most bottlings are available in many markets, so prices may vary between countries.

Every participant (which may be a distillery, bottler, importer or even a liquor store)
can submit up to five bottles for each 'brand' in the Malt Maniacs Awards. Below
you can find an overview of the participants that competed in this year's edition.

The MM Awards is still an 'amateur' effort, so we have to do all the work (handling,
re-shipping, etc.) ourselves and in our spare time. The same goes for the sampling
and scoring - which can be a daunting task when you're talking about more than 200
samples which have to be tasted and scored (blind) in a matter of four to six weeks.
That's why we had to limit the number of bottles per participant / brand to five.

Malt Maniacs Awards - 2011

Hurray! - the Malt Maniacs Awards 2011 are over... And while many things have
stayed the same (more about that later), we have changed some things about
the presentation of our awards and medals. From this year on, we will present
the results of our competition with a JURY REPORT (a PDF with some editorial
comments and the winners of the various awards and medals), as well as a PDF
with the complete SCORE CARD - including the individual scores of all jurors.
So, without further ado, we proudly present the results of our efforts:

If you are, however, in the mood for some ado, we would be happy to oblige.
This page may not contain as much details as the pages with the results for the
2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 whisky competitions, but
it has been at least a year since our last one. So, it wouldn't hurt to go over a
few of the main issues again. Like our traditional price brackets, for example...
