Any whiskey can get you drunk - and
every extra glass you drink will make
you more drunk. Your mind may feel
like it’s expanding, but your brain is
actually shrinking from dehydration.
That’s why the best hangover cure
is actually drinking lots of water - and
the sooner you start with it, the better.
The more water you add to your whisky,
the better you’ll feel the next morning...

According to the almighty Wikipedia, a debunker is “a person who attempts to
expose or discredit claims (beliefs, ideas, myths) that are believed to be false,
exaggerated or pretentious”.
When I was still an active as a Malt Maniac
I loved to partake in some occasional debunking, but that site segment
wasn’t really geared towards the relative novices in the whiskey world.

And its precisely those novices that are vulnerable to being bunked...
I’m assuming that you you like a bit of romance & mystery as much
as the next guy or girl (who doesn’t?), but it would probably be best
to keep that stuff reserved for films, books & the bedroom for now.
When it comes to whiskey, I’d personally rather have the facts...

In the ten chapters of the Beginner’s Guide I tried to disrupt
the familiar but faulty ‘narrative’ around whiskey as little as
possible, but if you read that guide, you’re ready for the truth...

If the last paragraph left you slightly uneasy, I just proved my point. ;-)
So, we may not be able to weed out all misconceptions about whisky
among the general public, but every single person that knows a little
better than they did before thanks to the list below is a little victory.

Or at least my own version of the truth.
I’ve tried, but I still don’t know everything yet...

Did you think that whisky makes you more popular and/or a better lover?
You probably don’t think that you did (at least not on a conscious level),
but part of you probably did. And that part is the ‘secondary’ part of our
brains in our nether regions. It’s the murkier part of our soul where things
like rumours, gossip, advertising and bullshit stick around...

Even after an idea is digested
and we don’t think that we think
about it anymore, it can leave
unpleasant remnants behind.
And some remnants can get
deformed over time. Yet they
stick around for a long time...
